The First American Astronaut To Orbit Earth Who Turned Us Senator John Glenn, Has Died

John Glenn former war hero who turned US senator was one of the "Mercury Seven" group of military test pilots selected in 1959 by NASA to fly the Project Mercury spacecraft.

He was admitted last week to the James Cancer Hospital, but officials refused to confirm if he was suffering from the disease.

The 95-year-old, who circled the earth in 1962 aboard a space capsule dubbed Friendship 7, died this afternoon surrounded by his family at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Centre in Columbus.
