Alison Teal, 30, also known as 'Indiana Jane' from Hawaii travelled 500ft below ground to surf the Catacombs of Paris where six million skeletons are laid. She spoke about how terrifying and suffocating on exploring one of the world's largest graves.
She is thought to be the first person to complete the feat after the adventure on October 13.
The surfer, who is also a film-maker, said she grew up listening to her father telling tales of catacombs around Halloween
But the tunnels in Paris proved to be challenging as the became narrower, making the atmosphere 'suffocating'.
Travelling through the catacombs with her team she recalled various challenges and explained how, at one stage, the water level began to rise meaning they could not go back the way they came and were forced to travel in the opposite direction.
She told the Mail Online : "In the end we all had to swim through it and there was just a little gap at the top of the chamber to breathe.
"It was terrifying. I had to stop filming, it just became about survival. By the end we were just shaking."
Alison, who is the daughter of a wildlife photographer and naturalist, has traveled around the world to surf and explore rarely seen locations.
